A Little Help asks: “How Do You Create A Link In a Blog Post?”
Answer:
- You can start by having the web address or URL of the page that you would like to link to. For example: http://www.marketing101pro.com/likes/member.htm – If you are not sure of the exact web address – you can find it by copy and pasting it from your browser bar located (usually) in the upper part of your computer when you are on the internet.
- You might want to have a word document or notepad open that you can paste the address onto for reference.
- You can either just include that link in the text of your post that you are writing for your blog, or you can create a hyperlink by making it possible for your readers to go to the link by clicking on the text. You will see this a lot when people say Click Here and you are actually able to click on the text and be taken to another website.
- To do this, you need to use your mouse to highlight the text that you would like to make ‘clickable’ by hyperlinking the words to go to another website or URL. Start at the beginning of the text and left click on your mouse. While holding the left mouse button down, drag your mouse to cover all of the words you want hyperlinked.
- Once you have done that, click on the “link” or “hyperlink” buttons in your tool bar. Sometimes the button looks like a chain (link) or an internet earth icon. After you click on the right button, a pop up box will allow you to paste the web address or URL into the field – click ‘Save’ or ‘Ok’ and you have a clickable text link!
If you would like to know what the HTML code looks like for a link, here it is:
<a href=”http://www.marketing101pro.com/likes/member.htm“>Click Here</a>
If you were to past this HTML into your ‘Source’ or HTML viewer on your blog, it would end up looking like this:
Pretty easy, huh? Once you try it a couple of times you will find that it is nothing to be afraid of! Using hyperlinks is a great way to keep your writing clean and neat…and interactive! It’s a great way to tell your readers about other sites or information that relate to your blog post while keeping the flow of the writing intact and free of ugly looking web addresses and URLs.
To your success,
