hostgator-220x240 Extreme Newbie asks: ‘How do I know which is the best web hosting company to work with?’

Answer: In my last post titled, What is a Domain Name? I answered Extreme Newbie.  We continue the conversation with her question about selecting the best web hosting.

These days, it’s just about impossible to make money online without your own website.  You are going to want to give your choice of web host a lot of thought. While it may be true that secondary sites can be had through third part websites such as Squidoo or Hubpages, in the end you will still need a place for your own content.  As such, it makes sense to have your own website and select the best web hosting service possible.

There are many domain name registrars that now also offer hosting packages.  It is not necessary to sign up like that, though.  Since the web hosting program that you choose will hook your domain up with storage on the web host’s server, you will want to find a really good web host that will make your online business a lot easier to manage.

Three Keys To Finding The Best Web Hosting For Your Website

1. Customer Support

If you are a technical whiz, then you may not be as concerned with good customer support to help when snags arrive, but if you are like the rest of us, then you most likely will find yourself spending some time talking with the web hosts’ customer support people.  If you need hand holding through the set up process or if you need to contact support right away if your site goes down, the customer support help you get (or don’t get!) could mean all the difference.  A good web host should offer 24-7 support either be phone or via live IM support.

2. Capacity

The web hosting capacity is another important factor in your decision.  You may have multiple sites receiving quite a bit of traffic and in this case space and traffic needs will be a lot different than if you only had one popular blog.  Take the traffic and disk space limits of the host into account.  Make sure to read any fine print on what the hosting company does if the bandwidth limits are reached.  This information will help you to be prepared if you happen to get an influx of traffic.  Also pay attention to how many separate domains you can have on your hosting package.  There are some packages or plans that may only allow one website and this is difficult for most Internet marketers.  Choose the best web hosting company that allows for growth and that lets you easily upgrade your plan or package.

3. Company Reputation

This is not the time to go with a no-name brand to save money.  Web hosts that enjoy a good reputation do so by giving awesome service on a really consistent basis.  Do your due diligence and research several potential web hosting companies to see what others are saying about them and what kind of services they offer.  Take a look at searching on popular Internet marketing forums to see what you can find out about any of those companies or options.  As other professional marketers rely heavily and count on the best web hosting to help make them money, if you see a hosting company’s name over and over, it’s probably a really good bet that it’s a sound and good choice.
