If you’re an affiliate marketer, then you’re always looking over your shoulder to see if the competition – your fellow affiliates – are catching up to you.  Or, worse than that, you’re looking up ahead trying to catch up with them!

At times any market can be crowded, so selling the same thing to the same group of people means you’re lucky to get just a small share of the market.  Imagine having thirty-five Wal-Mart stores in one small town, all competing with each other to get the local business.  You get the idea.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.  The easiest way to outsell other affiliates is this…

Turn your AFFILIATE offer into a UNIQUE offer!

You see, most affiliates try to sell the product as is. If your prospects are shopping around, they’re going to skip all the “buy from me” offers.

Instead, they’re going to focus on those offers that give them an incentive to buy. And that means you can outsell the other affiliates simply by offering a bonus product to anyone who buys through your affiliate link.

I’ve been teaching this concept since 2001 and, all things being equal, those affiliates who put this into practice will outsell those who don’t virtually 100% of the time.

It’s a very simple strategy.  Let’s break it down into three steps…

Step 1: CHOOSE Your Incentive

Your goal is to make your offer stand out from the crowd by offering an incentive to buy from your link, thereby boosting your conversion rate. And that means you need to offer a bonus that enhances or otherwise complements the affiliate product.

Did you catch that?  Your bonus should “enhance” or “complement” the product you are promoting as an affiliate.  That’s what makes for the best incentive.

————- Case Study ———–

Let me give you a “real” case study (not made up … actually done by one of my customers).

A customer – who is also one of my affiliates – recently purchased my Multiple Streams Theme wordpress blog theme.  He loaded it to his site.  Then, he invested a little time writing a small report that teaches how to customize and tweak the theme.  He offered this small report, filled with insider shortcuts and tips for enhancing the theme, as an incentive to anyone who ordered the Multiple Streams Theme through his affiliate link.

Brilliant.

I’m just guessing, but I bet the report didn’t take him half an hour to write.  He just logged his own personal experiences.  And yet it has high value to anyone who has plans to order the theme.

That’s how you outsell other affiliates.  You turn your AFFILIATE offer into a UNIQUE OFFER.

One way to do this is by reading the sales letter for the product and choosing one particularly enticing bullet point.

Example #1: If the sales letter tells prospects they can learn how to get traffic from social media sites, then you can create a report called “27 Ways to Use Social Media to Drive Traffic to Any Website!”

Example #2: If the sales page for a diet book promises a month of low calorie recipes to customers, you can create a supplementary low calorie recipe book and give it away to those who buy from your link.

Example #3: If you’re promoting a dog training book and you see a bullet point about eliminating bad behaviors such as jumping, incessant barking, digging in the gardening, etc. You can create a report or even a video called, “The Secrets of Training the Perfect Dog: How to Keep Your Dog’s Paws Off Your Guests, Off Your Counters and Out of Your Garden!”

The point is, your freebie should be directly related to the affiliate offer. You want your prospects to buy through your link just because the incentive is so enticing.

What kind of incentive?  You can do videos, software, coaching, advertising, installations, services, etc.

But, “pound for pound”, the best and easiest incentive to create is a small report.

Step 2: CREATE Your Incentive

Once you decide on the topic, your next step is to create the bonus product. If you’re creating a short report or video, you can probably finish it in one day. Otherwise, you can hire a trusted freelancer to do it, which frees your time to focus on marketing the offer!

Tip: You find ghostwriters on sites like WarriorForum.com, Elance.com, and GetAFreelancer.com. You can also ask for recommendations from your colleagues via your social networks or on business forums.

Step 3: CIRCULATE Your Incentive.

Finally, your last step is to promote your offer by letting prospects know that anyone who buys the affiliate product using your link will get the bonus product.

Let your list know.  Tell your blog readers.  Tweet about it.  Purchase advertising.  Distribute free marketing materials such as ezine articles.  Mention it in sig files at forums.  You know the drill.

Now, there are a few ways to deliver the product:

1.  On the download page. If you’ve developed a relationship with the product vendor, he may agree to set up a special sales page that promotes the bonus plus a special download page so that customers can download it instantly after purchasing.

2.  Manually. You can have customers forward their receipts and then you send them the link to the bonus.

3.  Automatically. You can also set up a special email address with an autoresponder, so that anyone who sends you a receipt gets the download link automatically. (Naturally, some people will try to “cheat” this system.)

And there you have it – the simple three-step strategy you can use to outsell your competitors and put more money in your pocket.

As you are researching and writing about your niche, you may begin to see gaps in the information or a need that could be met.  This is a great opportunity for you to create your own report , eBook or software addressing the issue and sell it on your blog.  Advertising your own product is a great way to make money blogging.  It is easy to link to your product’s sales page directly from you posts and display graphic ads in the sidebars.

While it may take you a little while to build up some traffic first, you can always add contextual advertising (there are many services that offer this kind of advertising – so be sure to do some proper research first) to make an additional profit stream.  In this kind of advertising, your blog posts will automatically have specific works hyperlinked to the advertiser’s sites and sales pages.  You make money when your visitor buys from the advertiser’s site.

1. Use ADSENSE

Of course, Google is not the only Pay Per Click advertising program, but it is the most recognized and a good place to get a feel of how it works.  What happens is that you sign up for an account and give basic information about your site, and then Google Adsense provides you with some code to place on your site.  When you do this, ads will appear in the sidebars of your blog.  The ads are for similar topics or products to what you are blogging about, and so you get paid when the visitor click on the links.  This is a great passive way to make money blogging about what you love.

1. Post GREAT INFORMATION

Depending on what your niche is, you not only want to give good, useful information, you also want to show your personality and maybe use humor.  The world is on the computer so much that everything starts to look the same after awhile.  Be different, but real.  Be interesting, not annoying!  The more fun you have, the more fun your visitors will have and they will just keep in coming back for more – and that is the absolute best way to make money blogging there is!

Answer: According to Wikipedia – “A domain name is an identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet, based on the Domain Name System (DNS).  Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes.”

Are you still asking “What is a domain name?”  That’s understandable.  Simply stated, a domain name is the identifying letters and or numbers associated with an internet address.  For example, you arrived at this site by either clicking on a link or typing in the name:  www.marketing101pro.com In this instance, Marketing101Pro.com is the domain name.  Because the domain name is the way to find the website that you are looking for, it is essentially an address that a person or entity owns.  A domain name is a placeholder that lets you own and be in charge of a piece of virtual property on the internet.  As such, you will want to make sure that your property name is properly representative of what your website or web pages are about.

It does not matter if it’s a flagship blog or a domain for a niche site; make sure you take the time to find the right domain name.  Here are some guidelines to assist you in finding a perfect domain name for your website.

1. Purpose.

Decide on the purpose of your website.  Are you going to establish yourself as an expert in a niche?  That is a great idea and requires you to do some keyword research to decide which phrases would naturally attract traffic.  Are you buying a domain to sell a product?  If this is the case, then the product name or a variation of it should be the domain name.  The perfect domain name in this case should either describe what the website is about or it should contain keywords related to your domain. Deciding on the exact purpose of the website should contribute to the name or phrases used in the domain name.

2. Presence.

What is a domain name worth, without an exact keyword phrase in it?  Well, that is a matter of opinion and something you will need to decide.  For some websites, it will not be a big deal to use another similar phrase.  For others, you may need the exact phrase.  In the second case, you should try adding hyphens, prefixes or suffixes to your domain name if the exact phrase is already taken.  In this fashion, you will still be able to use the phrase while establishing yourself in the niche.  A general rule of thumb is to use no more than two hyphens in a domain name.

3. Potential.

Do you have a clear idea of how big the website might grow in the coming months and years?  Is the domain name you are buying intended as a mini-site to feed into your sales page or are you looking to create an authority site in your niche?  The domain name selection should be determined by how much growth you are expecting for your website.  If it is going to be a niche mini-site, the name should be a lot more specific and exact with a long tail keyword phrase than an authority kind of site.  A mini-site name example might be: benninersheirloomtomatotips.com  See how that is very niche specific?  Where an authority site would do better with:  heirloomgrowing.com  This is better situated for growth and expanded topics at the site.

4. Price.

Just about any domain name you want is available, if you have the funds to pay for it.  However, most of the time you will want to get register a domain name that is not already in use.  Domain names can cost anywhere between $7 and $15 depending on the company you are registering them through.  I recommend Active Domain (NOT an affiliate link!) due to their pricing and options.  Go Daddy has an easy to use interface for researching available names and suggesting others.  I do my research at Go Daddy – then head over to Active Domains when I am ready to purchase.  If you have a very specific business name and want to get a domain name that has already been registered, check to see if it is in use or not.  If it is not being used, think about contacting the domain owner and asking about purchasing it.  You can find the domain name owner’s information in the ‘WhoIs’ directory and attempt to make a deal with the current owner.

Answer: It certainly can be frustrating to feel as though a lot of hard work is not getting you the results you want.  But there are a couple of key things that you can do to turn things around and increase blog traffic.

Guest blog posts on larger blogs – A great way to increase blog traffic is to write guest blog posts on larger blogs that already have more traffic.  Search your keywords that you want to focus on in a couple of the main search engines (like Google, Yahoo or Bing) and add the word ‘blog’ at the end.  From the results, select 2-3 blogs from the top 3 and look through them.  Get familiar with their content and style.  It’s a good idea to subscribe to their RSS feeds or newsletters so that you can stay up to date as well as learn from them.  Read this awesome guest post at Problogger.net for some great advice on how to write your post, submit it to the blog owner and help increase blog traffic to your own blog.

Have a link building strategy – Any kind of website or blog traffic will benefit greatly from a well thought out and consistent link building strategy.  The easiest and quickest way to get started is to regularly comment on popular and relevant sites and forums.  Start with the blogs that you identified previously and add 2-3 forums on the same topic or niche.  As you read and get familiar with a particular site, begin to get into the conversation replying to the post or thread.  Make them real questions that you have or comment by giving feedback or constructive criticism to the post.  Don’t just make it some arbitrary little comment that doesn’t contribute to the conversation.  Then, you can either list your website in the comment section of a site or in the bio section of a forum.  A great post with a lot of comments can be found at Copyblogger.com and will give advice on blog traffic using this method, plus a great look at comments posted by readers and what can be accomplished.

Perhaps it was really smart that the question here was limited to 2 ways to increase blog traffic…because there are so many ways to get traffic, that it is overwhelming!  Starting with a couple methods, getting consistent and comfortable, THEN moving on to a couple more methods is an incredible strategy overall.

First, brainstorm and write down subjects that really interest you.  Don’t just think of things that you think will make you money.  Think of things that are also interesting to you and that you don’t mind learning about.  This is what will separate you doing a ‘job’ and creating a new ‘career’ for yourself.  Remember, a job is a chore, – something you do to pay the bills and put food in your mouth.  A ‘Career’ is a reason to get up in the morning, a reason to get excited every day!

Second, once you have a list of several items, it is time to begin your research online.  Looking for a legitimate home based business is not as hard as it may seem.  When you Google or Yahoo search your topic, you will want to take a look at the highest ranked products.  Then, take your time and read their sales page.  As you are reading and reviewing it, ask yourself these questions:

1. Is it easy to read?
2. Is it well thought out and descriptive?
3. Does it make me want to buy this product?
4. Are there bullet points and testimonials?
5. Does it have a guarantee?
6. Is it clear what it promises to do and in what amount of time?
7. Does it have a way to reach support or ask questions? (Can I contact the owner? etc.)

If the answer to most or all of these questions is positive, then you probably have a great product.

Third, you will need to see if it has a way for you to become an affiliate.  If it does, congratulations!!  You now have your very own legitimate home based business!  A lot of the more lucrative affiliate sites will also have coaching and tools to offer you.  They want to help you succeed and get started on the right foot.  The more money you make, the more money they make.  It’s a win-win and in their best interest to help you as much as possible.  Take your time and go through any help they give you carefully.  Follow their steps and get involved in any training they offer.  Don’t pay for extra help, though.  Just read through the free help they should be giving you.

Clickbank and Paydotcom are also great resources for finding a great product.  They have many categories and should help narrow down the home based business opportunity that you are looking for.  Personally, I have found several to be very profitable and easy to navigate.  They are out there and they do exist!  I know that it can be disheartening to feel like you’ve been scammed or like your ‘helpful’ sponsor disappeared and left you in the dust as soon as your check cleared.  I know, because I’ve been there.  But it really is time to take control and create your own legitimate home based business for yourself.

Answer: Writing great content is one thing that makes most people freeze up and flashback to the years of fighting over English papers. If you want to be a prosperous Internet marketer, you are going to have to write. Please do not fear though… creating content is nothing like pouring over 5 pages on Romeo and Juliet!

Creating your own information product could be simple and quick once you adhere to these steps for writing great content.

1. Research.

Before you even write a sentence of your information product or site post, make sure you get your research done. Your content material should flow from one idea to another and you’ll have no clue what those concepts are until you finish your research. What happens when you’re midway through an ebook or article and then find a new way to look at the situation? Get your research done prior to trying to write and you’ll end up with an improved product.

2. Reorder.

Start the development process using a good outline. Getting organized is one of the essential parts of writing quickly. To be able to write your articles quickly, you may need a road map. By creating a plan and organizing your research, you’ll manage to work through your pages quickly. You will not need to stop and think of what to write next because you’ll have your content outline to follow.

3. Reveal.

Try to share personal stories and examples. It’s a good deal less complicated to write about your own experiences or the experiences of another person than attempting to clarify a concept outright. The writing will be much more interesting and more comfortable to write if you can think of ways to share examples from your own life. If you don’t have personal experience with the subject you can make up stories or draw examples from others who have knowledge. This is essential if you are working with big topics or topics that tend to be a little dry.  It should not only make your writing more pleasurable but it might help get the idea across to your reader.

4. Rethink.

There are two components to everyone’s brain – the creative side and the critical side. The critical side of your brain can get in the way when you are focusing on writing great content. It can tell you to fix that word or that sentence isn’t adequate. Your writing will go much more quickly if you can put your critic on a shelf and just write until you cannot write anymore. Promise your inner critic that it can go to town on your information product or post, but only once your creative side has made it’s way through the whole thing. You will find that your writing will go faster, errors and all, once your critic is quiet during the writing process.

5. Read.

The fastest, and best, method to edit any product is to read it out loud. Even if your word processor contains spell check and grammar check, there can still be things wrong with the content. Reading your product out loud will override the brain’s tendency to fill in errors with the right words. By doing this, your editing will go much faster.

Even if you were the worst English student on the planet, you can quickly and effortlessly see that writing great content is not so hard once you stick to these steps.
