Make Money: Your Internet Marketing Baby

baby_internetIM Baby asks:  “How can I get my business on track and making money?  I feel like I have all the information I need.  What am I missing?”

Answer: If this is your business, then it is NOT your “baby” and you have to stop thinking of it that way.  That soft, indulgent approach is part of why you are not getting where you want to be.  If you are in this to MAKE MONEY and build a residual cash flow for yourself, then the very first thing you have to do is think of it as a Business.  A Business that you are the boss of…and the employee.  Cool, huh?  It’s like you have a split personality!  When you are fist starting though, it’s likely that you will have to deal with this dual role.

So, as a boss, why are you taking the crap that your employee is handing out?  Why are you allowing them to sabotage your business?  Well, there could be several reasons.  Perhaps the employee side of you feels overwhelmed, or feels inadequate, stressed out or is in analysis paralysis!  Ok, we have all been there at some point.  What we are going to deal with here are some suggestions for getting yourself organized and back on track.

  1. Ask yourself, as the boss—“What would I do to get the most out of my employee?”  Write down your answers and start to organize yourself using that list.
  2. You only really need 30 minutes every day of FOCUSED, CALM, RELAXED time to work on your business.  That’s right!  Don’t make it bigger than it is!! You would not believe how much you can accomplish in only 30 minutes…the key is to really be focused, calm and relaxed.
  3. The only way to really screw it up – is to do nothing.  Make a decision and then ACT upon it.  Period.
  4. Make a broad schedule for the week.  Include everything (personal and business) and make sure to schedule in some relaxation and/or fun time.  Have a meeting with yourself once a week to see if your schedule needs to be tweaked or redone.  Be accountable – if it’s not working, then change it.  Stick to your schedule!
  5. Make a more specific, broken down, individual step list for your work time.  When you complete each item, write or type “DONE!” next to it.  Let yourself feel good about seeing the progress you make – it’s important to reward yourself for everything you complete.  This will help you stay motivated, so really do it!  (DONE!)
  6. Train yourself.  When you sit down to work, you have to be like Pavlov’s dog!  ONLY WORK!  No email checking, no chatting, no surfing!  Only work.  Shut everything else off.  Turn off the phone, put a sign on your door so that you are not disturbed. (refer to #2)  Setting a timer is an awesome thing to do!  Give yourself the full 30 minutes – no cheating – and your business will be booming before you know it.
  7. At the end of every day, set aside 5-10 minutes to plan out and write down 2-3 things to do tomorrow when you sit down to work.  That way, as soon as you are ready for work the next day, you simply pick from that list, get started right away and hit the ground running!

You owe it to yourself and your business to start right away on implementing these organization and work tactics.  They will whip your employee into shape and make your boss very happy!

To your business,
